WHAT BAPTISTS BELIEVE
12. SANCTIFICATION
We believe that Sanctification is the process by which according to the will of God, we are made
partakers of His holiness (I Thes 5:23, II Cor 7:1) that sanctification, meaning to set apart wholly
to God’s use, is in three tenses; We were sanctified in Christ eternally when we accepted Christ
as our Savior (Heb 2:11; Heb 10:10,14; I Jn 2:29; Heb 13:12) We are being sanctified daily
through the indwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit and the cleansing of the Word of
God and prayer, (Jn 17:17; Eph 5:26; Rom 8:26,26; I Tim 4:5; II Tim 2:21; Rom 15:16; Phil
2:12-16; Eph 4:11-16; I Pet 1:2) and that we will be completely sanctified when we are with
Christ in our new bodies. (I Jn 3:1-3; Rom 8:18-25; I Cor 15:51-57; I Thes 4:13-18; Eph 1:13,14;
Eph 4:30).
Intro: Webster definition - In an evangelical sense, the act of God's grace by which the affections of
men are purified or alienated from sin and the world, and exalted to a supreme love to God.
I Thes 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
II Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
· A Holy God gave His Holy Son, to shed His Holy Blood, to wholly redeem sinners. To live in their hearts with His Holy Spirit. A Holy God has written to us His Holy Word
